A private practice for the deeper questions of life.
Jungian analysis for a small number of people seeking a sustained encounter with the inner life. A place for questions of meaning, identity and becoming that ask for time, depth and close attention.
You may be facing anxiety, grief or difficulties in your relationships, or finding that familiar ways of coping no longer help.
You do not need to know where to begin.
Make an enquiryWhen understanding is only the beginning.
You may understand your history well and still sense that the real question has not yet been asked.
You may have achieved much, carried considerable responsibility, or spent years coming to understand yourself. Yet a question remains: what is this life asking of you now? Our work attends to the suffering that brings you here, and to the possibilities within it: what is asking to be lived, and what can be trusted when familiar answers no longer hold.
The work is unhurried and exacting. We attend to dreams, symbols, bodily feeling and silence, allowing what is less readily spoken to find its form. This asks for curiosity, patience and a willingness to be changed by what we discover.
What emerges shows up in ordinary life: how you love, choose and work. Relief matters, alongside the possibility of a life felt more fully as your own.
Where the spirit of the times meets the spirit of the depths.
We carry the expectations and urgency of our times within us. The deeper life of the soul speaks through dreams, symbols, bodily feelings, recurring struggles and longing. Jungian analysis makes room to listen.
My approach includes an openness to synchronicity: meaningful connections between inner experience and what happens in our encounters. An image, a phrase or a silence may touch us both, bringing something previously unspoken into view. We stay with these moments, allowing their meaning to unfold rather than rushing to explain them.
Questions of meaning, belonging, belief and doubt are welcome in your own language. You do not need to share any particular outlook. What matters is your experience, and how our work can find expression in your relationships, your choices and your everyday life.
In practice, the work is slow and quiet. We begin with what you bring: a dream, a recurring image, a decision that won’t settle. We stay with it long enough for it to speak. Alongside Jung, I draw on philosophy, the wisdom of the ages and the symbolic life. A long contemplative practice informs my attention to what remains unknown. Silence is part of the work, not a gap in it. Over time, what changes is usually less the story you tell about your life than what you are willing to live.
What is asking to be lived that has not yet found its voice?
About Phil
Depth, relationship and the life beneath the surface.
I am a Jungian analyst and psychotherapist with 30 years’ clinical experience.
My work brings together Jungian analytic training, psychology, philosophy and theology with a contemplative approach, shaped by long personal practice of meditation and silence. That practice informs how I listen, including to what does not yet have words.
Earlier in my career I worked in treatment centres and clinics, including as Clinical Director, with addictions, compulsive behaviours and eating disorders, often where difficulties were complex and longstanding. That experience informs the steady, attentive approach I bring to each person.
Time spent living and working among different cultures, notably in East Africa, continues to inform how I listen to each person’s understanding of belonging, relationship and meaning.
I have a particular interest in midlife and later life, through Jung’s understanding of individuation: the lifelong movement toward becoming more fully who we are. These stages can bring questions of meaning, belonging, loss and identity that familiar ways of living no longer answer.
Many of the people I see are leaders and professionals for whom a defining role has ended, or has stopped being enough. Retirement and other major transitions can open unexpected questions of identity and purpose, and I make room for them.
I work from Headley in Surrey and online across the UK and internationally. Registered with the British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC), registration 21207. Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
Clinical supervision
A place to think beneath the work.
I offer clinical supervision for psychotherapists, counsellors and practitioners seeking a reflective space to understand what is unfolding in their work. We attend to transference and countertransference, dreams, images, bodily feelings and the wider therapeutic relationship.
I have a particular interest in possible moments of synchronicity, when an image, symbol or shift in feeling seems to carry meaning for both patient and analyst. Supervision offers room to explore these experiences with care, considering how they may deepen understanding and inform the work.
